When there's no floor drain in the area to bring it up to code you need to put the heater on a drip pan- and install a flood stop on the incoming water line. The flood stop lays in the drip pan- and if water leaks from the water heater it starts filling up the drip pan until the water touches the sensor- relaying a shutoff signal to the solenoid valve on the flood stop- saving your home from a flood!
